Calculate Pi to 500 places, change a carburetor on a '64 Mustang, assemble an Amoire using nothing but dovetail joints, short sell Groundnuts for financial gain and manipulate thermostable DNA polymerases - these are all things I don't know how to do.
Instead, I like to draw and paint. I've been doing it for a very long time now, and I think I'm starting to get a little better at it.
Influences run the gamut from classic Old Masters, the style I was originally taught to paint in when I was a just a kid, through to more modern lowbrow art and popular culture which takes form as many of my tshirt illustrations.
As my work over the years has focussed so heavily on fairly straight forward business design, I've started dabbling in digital painting as a way to brush up on my oldschool traditional painting skills (you see what I did there - "brush up" - yes, lame!).
Hopefully I'll be able to break out the canvas and paints every now and then as well, as nothing beats lay down some acrylic on canvas (I'm sick of the smell of oil paint so don't use it anymore) and actually push a brush around creating something new.
